Tubeless Ready Checklist

  • Why going for a tubeless ready setup?
    • Enhanced riding comfort
    • Less rolling resistance
    • Better handling characteristics
  • Check the tubeless ready compatibility of tire and rim
  • Recommended amount of tubeless sealant for initial mounting
    • Road: 30 ml
    • Gravel: 50 ml
    • MTB: 70 ml

Tubeless Ready (TR) tires from Continental offer the advantage of setting up your tires without using an inner tube. The required sealing performance is achieved by adding tubeless sealant. Our Tubeless Ready technology is particularly resistant to damage and stops the entry of foreign objects. However, if minor damage does occur, the tubeless sealant will leak slightly and should immediately seal the damage.

The advantage of a tubeless ready setup is increased puncture protection and the possibility of riding at lower air pressures.

For the initial mounting, we recommend using a minimum of 30 ml of Continental RevoSealant per tire.

Continental’s safety recommendations for tubeless ready setups:

  1. Before mounting the tires, check all components (rim, tire, valve, rim tape) for damage. Damaged parts should always be replaced to ensure maximum safety. Please also check the expiration date of your tubeless sealant. If exceeded, exchange your tubeless sealant.
  2. Follow Continental’s mounting and care instructions for bicycle tires.
  3. Always check the tubeless ready compatibility of tire and rim. Therefore, check the tire packaging and the information of your rim provided by the rim manufacturer.
  4. Always check the maximum inflation pressure and maximum inner rim width of the tire on its packaging. Never exceed the permitted values! Be aware that they differentiate between different models and size designations.
  5. Always check the rim manufacturer’s tubeless ready guidelines. Be aware that the maximum tire pressure and maximum inner rim width stated by rim manufacturer and tire manufacturer for a specific tire size can differentiate. If they do, the lowest value is the one to follow.

    Example:
    • Max. inner rim width by tire manufacturer for a 28-622 tire on a hookless rim is 23mm
    • Max. inner rim width by rim manufacturer for a 28-622 tire on a specific hookless rim is 25mm
→ follow the lower value, in this case 23mm inner rim width

  6. Never exceed the maximum inflation pressure listed for your tire. The inflation pressure should be checked before every ride. Always keep possible temperature differences between where the inflation pressure is checked and where the bike is ridden or stored in mind. With rising temperatures, the pressure inside the tire rises as well and can potentially exceed the maximum inflation pressure. With every 10°C | 18°F rise in temperature, the inflation pressure increases by roughly 0.17 bar | 2.5 PSI! If the actual inflation pressure exceeds the maximum pressure, safe usage of the tire cannot be ensured!

At Continental, rider safety is our number one priority. In case of questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact Continental customer support.

    FAQ

The RevoSealant is Continental's tubeless sealant with tiny fibers and particles that can seal tires and tubes in the event of punctures or small cuts without chemically attacking tires, tubes or rims (either aluminum or carbon).

In addition to providing tubeless sealing for tubeless ready tires, RevoSealant can also be used with inner tubes for extra puncture protection.

Note: This tubeless sealant consists of carrier liquid and particles of different sizes. Shake the bottle well before use; otherwise, only the carrier liquid will be filled – negatively affecting the sealing performance. Shake the tubeless sealant very carefully before use, ensuring no particles are settled on the bottom and that the RevoSealant is thoroughly mixed.

The best way to find out which Continental bicycle tires are tubeless ready is to check out our catalog. A note can also always be found on the tire packaging.

Please watch our assembly video and follow the instructions in the tire packaging. There you will learn, for example, what needs to be considered during assembly, which tools are needed and how to use the tubeless sealant correctly. Always follow the safety instructions.

Please always follow the safety instructions for the tires and wheels. When using a tubeless setup, it should be noted that the sealant performance may decrease with time. Therefore, it is advisable to replace/refill the tubeless sealant at certain intervals. You can usually find information about the interval times on the packaging of your tubeless sealant.

Since the tubeless ready application is a tubeless setup, the air loss of the tire system may be higher than when used with an inner tube. Continental recommends checking the air pressure before every ride.

If the tubeless sealant does not reliably seal tire damage, Continental recommends changing the tire. For safety reasons, it is not recommended to perform any repairs yourself. Continental assumes no liability for damage caused by repair measures of any kind (e.g. by tubeless repair kits).

Before initial installation, we advise you wash the tire with soapy water, rinse it and then dry it thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. This will remove any manufacturer's release coatings on the tire, preventing them from stopping the tubeless sealant from forming an optimal bond with the tire.

Note: depending on the tire and the production period, the production date of the tire may be imprinted or stamped on the inside of the tire. You should make a note of this date before washing.

To ensure the tubeless sealant is evenly and reliably distributed throughout the tire and can achieve its full sealing performance, we recommend carrying out a short test ride immediately after the initial installation. Flexing and moving the tire during the ride ensures that the tubeless sealant reaches all leakage points.

The valve should be placed in a position to allow the tubeless sealant to flow in. However, care should be taken not to position the valve at the lowest tire position. We recommend the 5 o'clock or 7 o'clock position.

The valve should be placed in a position that allows the drainage of any residual tubeless sealant in the valve shaft. However, care should be taken not to position the valve at the lowest tire position.

We do not recommend using a CO2 cartridge in combination with tubeless sealant. This can impair the effect of the tubeless sealant.

Tires labeled 'Tubeless' or 'TL only' can be ridden without an inner tube or tubeless sealant. Continental does not have this type of tire in its portfolio.

Tires labeled 'Tubeless Ready,' 'TR,' or 'TLR' can be ridden without an inner tube but require tubeless sealant.
