Discover Continental’s aContact Tire Line for Autonomous Vehicle Fleets

Continental’s aContact original equipment tire line has been designed specifically for autonomous vehicle fleets, prioritizing both safety and efficiency. These tires incorporate different Continental tire technologies, which help to minimize the overall cost per kilometer driven. Depending on customer requirements, the aContact can be equipped with extremely low rolling resistance. Or with a robust sidewall construction for maximum service life, high mileage, or exceptional aerodynamic efficiency to increase the battery range of autonomous vehicles.

Key Features

The aContact tire line integrates features from existing tire lines to meet the unique needs of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Therefore, the tire line does not have a uniform tread pattern or specific tread, no special tread design or rubber compound. Customers can choose from Continental’s comprehensive portfolio of tire technologies.

  • Safety and efficiency: Key aspects in the development of the tire included ultra-low rolling resistance and high mileage, which are key features for the optimal performance of autonomous vehicle fleets.

  • Advanced Properties: With different tire technologies, intelligent sizing, and robust sidewall construction, the aContact supports OEMs in achieving their vehicle application goals. Options include an advanced all-season rubber compound for optimized rolling resistance and mileage. Intelligent tire size selection, especially "tall and narrow" dimensions, increase efficiency and acoustic comfort.

  • Damage Protection: The aContact’s robust construction increases its service life and prevents most pressure losses due to shocks. Continental technologies such as ContiSeal or Run-flat can also be used.

  • Customers: The aContact tire line is developed especially for vehicle manufacturers. It is tailored for autonomous vehicle fleets, and not available through consumer channels.

Continental continues to collaborate with various manufacturers to define the best tire solutions for the evolving needs of autonomous driving.

For more than ten years, Continental's developers have been optimizing tires to achieve ever lower rolling resistance, low rolling noise and high mileage - without compromising on safety features. As a result, all Continental tires meet the requirements of electric vehicles and are also able to sustainably reduce emissions from combustion vehicles. This strategy is working: In 2023, for the first time all ten of the world's highest-volume manufacturers of fully electric vehicles relied on Continental's technological expertise as original equipment.
