Når temperaturerne falder, sikrer vinterdæk langt højere trafiksikkerhed sammenlignet med sommerdæk. Du kan selv vælge at skifte for at være sikker på dine dæk i sne og isede forhold. Er du stadig usikker på, hvornår du skal skifte, viser oversigten herunder, hvilke europæiske lande der har lovgivning om obligatoriske vinterdæk. Du kan genkende vinterdæk ved specielle mærkninger på sidevæggen. Indtil nu har det velkendte M+S-mærke været tilstrækkeligt som et vinterdækmærke. Det alpine symbol (3PMSF*) er blevet obligatorisk for vinter- eller helårsdæk siden 1. januar 2018. I overgangsperioden indtil 30. september 2024 er M+S dæk tilstrækkelige for at overholde de vinterdæklove, der er listet herunder. Vælg dit land fra listen for at tjekke de eksakte krav.

De fleste europæiske lande har regler, som enten gør vinterdæk til et lovkrav, eller hvor situationen kræver vinterdæk. Som en tommelfingerregel anbefales det at bruge vinterdæk mellem 1. oktober og 30. april eller fra efterår til påske. I nogle lande siger lovgivningen om vinterdæk dog præcist, hvornår du skal foretage dit sæsonskifte af dæk. Er du usikker, kan du spørge din lokale dækspecialist. De vil være up-to-date om de seneste krav og ændringer.
Uanset om du har helårsdæk eller vinterdæk, er der andre ting at tage i betragtning for at sikre optimal trafiksikkerhed og dækpræstation i sne. Hvert land har mindre variationer, så tjek listen eller spørg din dækspecialist.
I nogle områder skal dybden f.eks. på vinterdækkets slidbanemønster være minimum 1,6 mm, mens det i andre skal være 4 mm. Tag altid dit lands lovgivning med i betragtning, og husk, at dækpræstationer navnlig ved våde overflader forværres med slidbanedybde. For at sikre pålidelig trækkraft og godt vejgreb på sne- og isdækkede overflader, skal dine dæk altid have tilstrækkelig slidbane. Herudover skal dine dæk have det korrekte dæktryk for at sikre, at dit køretøj kan bremse i sne og is med godt vejgreb, god kontrol og manøvrering.
