Hanover, November 26, 2021.
Continental today announced a voluntary tire exchange program covering 67.128 ContiEcoContact 5 passenger car tires in the dimension 235/55 R 17 103 H XL. The exchange program is being initiated proactively to avoid any potential risk to vehicle drivers and other road-users. Sudden loss of air occurred in 3 cases, leading to minor property damage in one case. Personal injuries were not reported.
If the tires affected by the voluntary exchange program are used over a longer or repeated period of time with heavy loading or possible overloading, a sudden loss of air may occur in rare cases. The active market monitoring of Continental has only shown findings in the VW Caravelle and Multivan application. Continentals market monitoring has not identified comparable fault patterns with the respective tires used on other vehicle types.
The tire model affected was sold to customers in various countries, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and the United Kingdom within the original equipement and replacement business. The exchange campaign is free of charge for customers. Drivers who have received these tires as original equipement will be informed directly by the vehicle manufacturer.
Continental began notifying the respective national authorities on November 24, 2021 and is in contact with the car manufacturer and tire dealers to organize and implement this voluntary exchange program.
